Corvairs Ready For 2022/23

After a season of many ups and downs from Covid side affects to injuries the Corvairs are ready to get back on top. An early exit in the second round of the GOJHL playoffs was not a proper reflection of the team on ice that had to overcome many obstacles. However that is now in the rearview mirror for the organization. As the off-season has approached a lot of work has been put in behind the scenes to make sure the Corvairs get back on top of the Golden Horseshoe division. A few returning faces will be spotted in the lineup this season with some new additions.

Management quickly returned to action with a handful of re-signings which includes Noah Baltzer(Hamilton,ON), Dylan Dekoe(Welland,ON), Daniel Moro(Hamilton,ON) and Michael Tapley(Thornhill,ON). Director of Player Personnel Jake MacNeil had this to say “We are extremely happy to add these 4 back as a part of our veteran crew. We feel that these first four of our many eligible guys will be ready to go come puck drop. Right off the hop we have character in every one of these guys who all specialize in different aspects of the game which will contribute to our on ice success. Baltzer, who will be looked upon this season with more responsibility will thrive with his work ethic and eagerness to win as a team. We know Dylan will be one of the top offensive forwards in the league this season and he’s been putting in the work for it to translate to his on ice game. Daniel who is the longest tenured Corvair continues to progress every season and we truly believe this will be his breakout year and as for Tapley we are excited to see him back on the ice as a shutdown defenceman that teams will hate to play against”.

The staff didn’t stop there. After re-signing four players they have added 5 new faces to Caledonia. Joining the nest will be Connor Doerbecker(Wellesley,ON), Clark Dunford(Hamilton,ON), Cam Kay(Caledonia,ON), Tyler Mulholland(Waterdown, ON) out of prospect camp and recently acquired Liam Shwedyk(Ancaster,ON) via a trade. MacNeil had this to say “Thrilled to say the least with these additions. Connor who has been our radar had many options in the GOJHL and we’re excited to land him. We think he’ll be an offensive threat as he possesses a pro shot. Clark who is a Hamilton Bulldog draft pick will be one of the top 16 year-olds in our league this year as he is junior ready and won’t miss a beat jumping up to this level. Cam, a local of Caledonia already has some junior games under his belt and we feel will contribute in all aspects of the game as he plays with smarts and grit. Adding Tyler on the backend was also a great add as he’ll turn some heads with is vision and ability to slow the play down. Lastly acquiring a player of Liam’s caliber is huge. He was our last cut in 2019/20 and he joins us now with Jr. A experience and an all around strong game which we think will translate to much on ice success this season”. The fans in the nest will be very excited to watch these additions on the ice soon.

As the off-season continues so does the hard work. MacNeil had added “We have a few things up our sleeves we can’t announce just yet but with the core we have confirmed coming back, the new additions and the players we are bringing in we are extremely happy where we sit with our team. We still have 10 eligible players from last season who can return that we have been in contact with and you’ll see some more re-signings down the road as some still figure out plans in terms of jumping to a higher level or if school will be the route. We also have some irons in the fire that will be exciting for the fans and town of Caledonia but we like to keep our cards close to our hands for the time being. Overall we are shaping up very nicely and we are excited to see it all come together as our season approaches”. Every off-season comes with additions and subtractions. The Corvairs have sent Mitch Ferras(Brantford,ON) to the OJHL Pickering Panthers as he pursues a schooling opportunity, on behalf of our organization we would like to thank Mitch for his contributions and we’re honored to have been the start of his journey!

The Corvairs are currently skating once a week to stay in shape before main camp begins in August at the Haldimand County Caledonia Centre and will announce a few pre-season exhibition games that will take place leading up to the 2022/23 season. The GOJHL schedule is slated to be released shortly but the opponents for the GOJHL Showcase in Pelham, ON have already been determined with the Lasalle Vipers (Saturday September 25th 7:30) and Elmira Sugar Kings (Sunday September 26th 8:00). Be sure to stay tuned for more signings and announcements.
